ARROGANCE - THE ROOT OF ALL EVIL
Occasionally - not nearly often enough - a reader will respond to one of my posts. My last post - “IF THE LAW BE DOWN…” - generated a close-to-home comment from a relative in my extended family. In that earlier post, having noted the censor’s disallowing my comment on an article based on my using the words “virtue-signaling” and “self-congratulatory”, I asked the rhetorical question, “What does that tell you?”
My relative’s response was as follows:
“I think it tells me your writing actually has far more punch when you stick with the content that matters. Your points are well made, but when you tack on “virtue-signaling” or “self-congratulatory” or any other smack like that, true or not (and definitely true in this case), it actually detracts from your otherwise powerful message.”
Here below is my response:
Thanks for your comment.
Everyone is entitled to his or her own opinion, of course, and contrary opinions are always welcome here. For me, the truth matters. I prefer calling a spade a spade without first counting the cost... If I can understand it and it rings true, I will speak it - or write it. Don't really have a choice.
If it is possible to err by speaking too much truth - and I rather doubt it is - I would prefer to be accused of speaking too much of it than too little. I sit down to write by whatever inner light I have, not first asking myself what people will think. In the conviction that nothing is or works better than the truth - and knowing how hard it can be to get at it - I write what I believe to be true, to the best of my understanding and ability, always being willing to be corrected if I get it wrong or have been unfair to anybody - and, as you acknowledged, I didn't get it wrong in this instance. I was neither inaccurate nor unfair.
Indeed, "the content that matters" you referred to is, IMHO, focus on this very thing - the lawless arrogance that drives people like this. Taking note of it and naming it for what it is is hardly unmerited. Again, blowing away all the smoke, it is this arrogance that is the core issue. Can calling a spade a spade be considered an unnecessary “smack”? Only to those, I think, whose cover is being blown.
At first glance it seems insignificant or innocuous enough - a few virtue-signaling liberal wackos doing their thing - and they certainly have the right to do it - but understood in its full dimensions and philosophical implications, this lawless arrogance, because it exists on a grand scale among us and has heretofore been allowed to permeate our institutions of government, is dangerous and poses a threat to us all.
Indeed, the media misbehavior I have cited - in this case MSN.com’s disinclination to confront the truth and their spineless willingness to suppress it - is just another expression of that supreme arrogance - people who believe they are better and smarter than the rest of us, smarter than all of history - indeed smarter than God - and, by virtue of their self-styled brighter lights, certain they know best, think they have the right paternalistically to dictate what we think, control the information we have access to, and, in support of what they deem to be their grand, morally superior cause, the right to block or distort the truth whenever they see fit.
"Virtue-signaling" and "self-congratulatory" are precise descriptions of the psychology at work in these Utah people who have closed their businesses "in solidarity" with lawbreakers - a lawless psychology, as I noted, that if writ large, would inexorably lead to chaos and thus poses a deadly and fundamental threat to our law-and-order society. They are spitting in the face of the rule of law. They would sacrifice this most fundamental of our national principles on the altar of their self-styled moral superiority and arrogance - and there are millions like them among us.
That’s a problem - a BIG problem… and you can see just how big a problem it is by, among many other things, considering, on the one hand, the stunning dimensions of the invasion of tens of millions of illegals and, on the other, those millions of lawless, seditious leftists who, vaunting their delusional moral superiority and compassion - “They’re just coming here for a better life! Aren’t we wonderful for caring? To hell with the law!” - have facilitated and supported this catastrophic defiance of the core organizing principle of our great nation - the rule of law.
You can't solve a problem you haven't accurately defined - and this supreme hubris IS the problem, the root problem. It is the lifeblood of the liberal monster. It is a Godless spirit alien and hostile to the nature of individual human liberty - that liberty being the driver and object of the founding of the American nation. As I have noted many times previously, this same psychology, this soaring arrogance, this better-and-holier-than-thou mentality, this evil dictatorial juggernaut that obliterates all in its path - including the rule of law and all the institutions of God-given constitutional government that underpin it - is the wellspring of the problem.
Nothing new, this satanic arrogance had its first manifestations in primordial times and is the wellspring of pretty much all evil.
Time to look into the true face and eyes of the beast, name it and confront it - and we now seem to have a leader who is prepared to do just that.
More power to and may God protect Donald J. Trump.
Nothing has greater value than truth. The truth is the great divider. Sheep from the goats. Life gives us all a crack at learning the truth and choosing which side of that cosmic line we will stand on - and, in the process, weigh ourselves in the great scale of eternity. James Allen, author of the 1902 classic, “As a Man Thinketh”, summed up the whole purpose of human existence in a few words:
“Circumstances don’t make the man; they reveal him to himself.”
Who are you?
Right vs. wrong, truth vs. lies, reality vs. fantasy, order vs. chaos, law vs. lawlessness, justice vs. injustice, patriotism vs. treason, light vs. darkness, good vs. evil, happiness vs. misery, God vs. the Godless…
If you can be fooled, you will be…
