In response to my assertion in another forum that Donald J. Trump may be God’s last-ditch gift to a struggling, moribund but beloved nation, a friend in that forum, having been raised to “believe in providence” but having been rendered increasingly a cynic with passing time, says he nevertheless senses what he calls “deus ex machina” - or “God from the machine” - in the life and times of Donald J. Trump.
Mulling over his comment, I wrote this:
Get up to 30,000 feet and look down on the man. What you see is a historic heroic figure who has been viciously, brutally, unjustly attacked by dishonorable people since he first ventured onto the political stage, but never for a moment has been cowed by any of it. Against the odds - in the face of unremitting opposition - he accomplished much for America in his first term.
Unjustly out of office, the attacks on him continued, but he never flinched. He stood up against a mountainous weight of hatred that would certainly have crushed lesser men. Back on the campaign trail, the venomous calumny, the seditious, treasonous weaponization of the government against him, continued unabated. Still, he never blinked. Finally, seeing that they could not force him to bend the knee and retreat from the field, they tried to kill him - twice - but he survived - in Butler, PA by hardly an inch:
Then, against all odds, notwithstanding the ongoing blast from a slanderous, libelous, prevaricating, propagandistic, totally corrupt mainstream media - “Hitler! Mussolini! Fascist! King! Dictator! Threat to Democracy! Felon!” - and everything a weaponized government could do to stop him, the American people, to their great credit, saw through the Democrat lies and, in a resounding shout of the voice of the people, put DJT back in the Oval Office.
At some point simple coincidence or just good luck begins to stretch credulity and something more cosmic seems to force its way in. Is there a God? Is he active in the affairs of the world? Does he prepare and call men to serve his cause? Did God move upon inspired men to lay the foundations for the great free nation of America? Can it reasonably be argued that, in our day, after generations of corrupt government and increasing degradation in the people, God has thrown us a lifeline in the person of Donald J. Trump? Is it possible that Trump's great MAGA cause for America is God's cause, that Trump, for all his human imperfections, is God's man, serving God’s purpose?
If one is willing to accept the premises that there is a God, that America was founded as a free nation by inspired men whom God "raised up to this very purpose" (D&C 101:77-80) and that God has a special interest in the fate of this free nation (Book of Mormon, 2 Nephi 1:5-9), then the case that Donald J. Trump, too, has been "raised up to this very purpose" is not all that hard to make. Everything he has done since stepping back into the presidency - one great good thing for America after another - is consistent with this understanding.
Personally, I believe it.
Right vs. wrong, truth vs. lies, reality vs. fantasy, knowledge vs. ignorance, order vs. chaos, law vs. lawlessness, virtue vs. vice, patriotism vs. treason, light vs. darkness, good vs. evil, happiness vs. misery, God vs. the Godless…
Take your pick. You will, one way or another…
