Donald Trump - The Test of America's Intellectual, Moral and Spiritual Substance
These are the times that try men's souls...
In another forum, a participant, commenting on the ongoing obsessive controversy over Donald Trump, observed that, apart from what the man as a matter of record actually accomplished for the country during his first term, it was also worth listening to the assessments of those who have had varying degrees of personal contact with the man - several such people being participants in that forum - most of them - all Democrats/liberals politically - expressing personal dislike for the former president.
Here below is my response:
Sorry, folks, but this is not rocket science. It is, however - as I have long argued - a test of the intellectual, moral and spiritual substance of the American people - those who, one way or another, for or against, presume to stand in judgment of Donald J. Trump.
As I have previously noted, DJT, in his person, is a lightning rod splitting America's political either along intellectual, moral and spiritual lines. Politically speaking, as I have asserted in the past, the essential, intelligent and rational measure of Donald J. Trump is not his arrogance, “mean tweets” or his sometimes brash and abrasive personality, but what he has done for the country - nothing more and nothing less. And what he did for the country during his first term is not a matter of partisan opinion but one of historical record - such things as a booming economy, secure borders, low inflation, energy independence and low energy costs supported by a booming energy industry, and international respect for America in the eyes of both our geopolitical allies and our adversaries - in sum, exactly the things citizens have a right to expect from their president.
In this calculation, Donald J. Trump’s personal foibles - again, let him who has none cast the first stone - are absolutely irrelevant.
This is especially true considering the seditious, disastrous and ongoing sabotage inflicted on the nation and people by the mild-mannered "Uncle Joe" - the doddering, demented sock puppet in the Oval Office and his illegitimate band of lawless, traitorous, globalist, America-hating manipulators - the trashing of the rule of law; crime, unprosecuted, exploding on an unprecedented scale; open borders allowing a massive uncontrolled invasion of millions of unvetted, illegal aliens, including known terrorists - every illegal supported by your money and mine, diminishing the economic well-being of every American citizen; raging inflation savaging the quality of life of all but the very rich; sky-high energy costs consequent to the deliberate, seditious torpedoing of the nation’s energy industry; a transparent attempt to exert dictatorial control over the people based on a concatenation of pandemic and vaccine lies; and, internationally, the reducing of the American people and nation to a laughing stock in the eyes of the whole world as our pathetic La-La Land leadership obsess over abortion, “ESG”, “equity”, transgenderism, “a drag queen in every school”, and insanely foment an expensive and absolutely unnecessary war over Ukraine with nuclear-armed Russia where America has absolutely no strategic national interest.
If these people had set out to ruin America - which I believe they have - what would they have done differently?
In terms of America's bedrock best interests, then, the contrast between what DJT accomplished for us and the utter, unmitigated calamity the Biden regime has brought upon the American people could not possibly be starker or more dramatic.
The right and the wrong of it, the truth and the lies of it, the light and the darkness of it, the justice and injustice of it, the good and evil of it, could not possibly be more in-your-face. If you can't see the difference, you are a fool.
Setting aside everything personal about the two men, and considering what, as a matter of record, DJT did for the country, only a suicidal fool, in my opinion, would choose Biden over Trump - would choose what the train-wreck, illegitimate Biden regime has wrought upon the nation - calamities that strike at the very roots of our democratic Republic, threaten the well-being of the people, their very lives, and, indeed, the very existence of our country as a free and prosperous nation.
Thus, with Trump's accomplishments for the people chiseled in marble in the historical record, the issue of Donald J. Trump is not a matter of opinion, but, instead, a test of the intellectual, moral and spiritual substance and perception of the American people - their ability - or the lack of it - to determine where and with whom their best interests lie.
Accordingly, with all this before us - Trump's accomplishments for America and the raging disaster of the Biden regime - while everyone is indeed entitled to his opinion and the opportunity to freely express it, for my part, “Frankly, Scarlet, I don't give a damn!” what those who have in varying degrees known the man personally have to say about Donald J. Trump. Such views, including my own, are, again, utterly irrelevant in any fair-minded, informed, strategic assessment of the man’s past and possibly future contributions to our nation. As I have said before, if, in terms of his personal life, the man were the devil himself but had done for the people and nation what DJT did, he would deserve our gratitude and support.
In the real world - in the world of all those things that impact the lives and well-being of the people - there is and can be, in my view, no rational, honest argument - certainly no informed and patriotic argument - against Donald Trump. All that matters to me - and, I maintain, all that should matter to any rational thinker - is what Donald Trump has done for our country, and what he would likely do again were he to run again and be elected. His record speaks for itself.
Herein lies the test: Do you want more of what Biden has given us, or more of what Donald Trump gave us?
Right vs. wrong, truth vs. lies, light vs. darkness, justice vs. injustice, liberty vs. tyranny, good vs. evil...
Pick a side.
If you can be fooled, you will be.
