If The Law Be Down...
Sir Thomas More
In another forum, one contributor, commenting on the outrage being perpetrated against Donald J. Trump in New York under the guise of law - just the latest in a long train of desperate but frivolous attacks launched against the man his enemies see as an existential threat to their entrenched power structure - suggested that all the other prospective Republican candidates should, in protest, suspend their campaigns and throw their support to DJT, who is polling far ahead of any other candidate and will certainly be the Republican nominee in 2024.
Another participant in that same forum responded to that with this:
“You must be kidding! Do you think Trump would do that if it happened to someone else?????”
Here below is my rejoinder:
Yes - Trump - who, notwithstanding his foibles, has more character and backbone and is more a patriot than any other politician on the national stage - might well stand down on behalf of someone else if he was not overwhelmingly the leading candidate and at the same time understood the threat to the nation posed by this gross distortion and misapplication of the law. Of course, there is no possibility that any other candidate would or could be the focus of the sort of hatred directed at DJT because no other candidate could possibly pose the same threat to the established order.
Fundamentally, what's happening to Trump in New York has nothing to do with the man Donald Trump or this or that candidate. It has everything and only to do with the fundamental integrity of the nation's legal system. Shall the just rule of law endure? Or, notwithstanding the will of the people, shall the law be twisted and distorted and weaponized against those who are seen to be a threat to entrenched power? Will this evil be allowed to prevail?
No one has said it better than Sir Thomas More's character in the film "A Man for All Seasons":
"If the law be down, such a wind will blow in the land that no man can stand."
And again from the Book of Mormon, showing there is nothing new under the sun:
"For as their laws and their governments were established by the voice of the people, and they who chose evil were more numerous than they who chose good, therefore they were ripening for destruction, for the laws had become corrupted. Yea, and this was not all; they were a stiffnecked people, insomuch that they could not be governed by the law nor justice, save it were to their destruction."
- Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Book of Mormon, Helaman 5:2-3, about 30 BC.
In essence, America IS the rule of law. At the moment, the law is down in America. It has been down since the 2020 stolen election was allowed to stand unexamined and unchallenged, enabling a lawless, America-hating, seditious, treasonous regime to take power, subsequently wreaking havoc on the nation. Accordingly, at the moment, we are no longer a free and democratic people, but instead are ruled by those who have successfully corrupted the law and manipulated elections to their own ends.
Are those among us who choose evil - those who support the weaponization of the law against those who threaten the existing power structure - more numerous than they who choose good? It only remains to be seen whether these power-hungry demons will be allowed to get away with their ongoing overthrow of the rule of law in what was once the Land of the Free and Home of the Brave.
Everything that matters is at stake.
Right vs. wrong, truth vs. lies, reality vs. fantasy, law vs. lawlessness, justice vs. injustice, order vs. chaos, liberty vs. tyranny, light vs. darkness, good vs. evil, God vs. the Godless…
Take your pick. You will, one way or another…
If you can be fooled, you will be.
These are the times that try men’s souls…
