Intellect, Morality and Spirituality vs. Donald J. Trump
I have previous characterized Donald John Trump as a lightning rod splitting the intellectual, moral and spiritual ether of America - the intellectually, morally and spiritually enlightened among the people supporting him, while the intellectually, morally and spiritually challenged are opposed. How does that work?
Let's take those categories - intellectual, moral and spiritual - one at a time.
Assuming first a sound foundational understanding of America - the nation's history, its undergirding libertarian philosophy of individual human freedom and God-fearing Judeo/Christain values - and given the present utterly disastrous circumstances the country finds itself in consequent to the stolen election of 2020 - the catastrophic damage being inflicted on the country by the Godless, America-hating seditionists and traitors who have stolen their way into power - I believe there is and can be no sound intellectual argument that could convincingly persuade an honest, thoughtful person that Trump's being re-elected as president would be bad for America - especially in light of the alternatives.
Biden and other prospective candidates from the left are simply risible - literally jokes - dangerous jokes - on the people and insults to their intelligence. While there is a decent bench on the right - especially DeSantis - none of the Republican alternatives have had their metal tested in the fiery furnace of affliction and opposition Trump has passed through while delivering in spades for the America people. Honest critical thinking and the evidence of history force the conclusion that Trump can deliver the goods for America because he has delivered the goods for America in the face of the most intense opposition. (See my earlier Substack piece: No-Brainer)
Similarly, I believe there is no carefully thought-through, honest moral argument against Trump's re-election. Self-righteous prigs might judgmentally look down their noses at Trump's personal life -
- and point an accusing finger at him, but the truth is, he is no more flawed in his personal morality than many presidents before him. FDR, Dwight Eisenhower, Jack Kennedy, Lyndon Johnson and Bill Clinton all immediately jump to mind. All of these, and other past presidents, were unfaithful to their wives. Some had many affairs. Kennedy and Clinton were especially notorious for their promiscuous behavior. Yet, while the sexual transgressions of previous presidents are ignored or tolerated, Trump, whose behavior has arguably been considerably less outrageous than many of his predecessors - is railed against, condemned and deemed unworthy to serve again as president.
Can somebody explain to me this glaring double standard? Why is Trump considered a demon and all his immoral presidential predecessors not? Answer that question correctly and you'll be in the inner sanctum of understanding what's happening in America today.
The reality? Nobody's perfect. As Jesus challenged us all long ago, "Let him who is without sin cast the first stone." Or, as St. Paul, making the point that "all have sinned and come short of the glory of God", quotes the Psalmist in Romans 3:11-12:
None is righteous, no, not one; no one understands; no one seeks for God. All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one does good, not even one.”
Or, in today's version, paraphrasing Jesus, "People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones."
No thoughtful person has ever argued that Trump is a zit-free candidate, that he - like the rest of us - hasn't his share of foibles, peccadilloes, sins and eccentricities that many - especially the self-righteous and judgmental - might find irritating and off-putting. But, as Steve Bannon would point out, quibbles over Trump's personal quirks are "noise, not signal".
If ever there was a time for us, the people of America, to filter out the noise and focus hard and fast on signal - the truth, the way things really are and really work - what needs to be done for the country and who demonstrably has done it before and can do it again - is it not today, when, in just two short years of catastrophic malfeasance, the very existence of our great free nation is in peril at the hands of seditionists and traitors? We have little margin for error, and we do not have the luxury of time.
I am reminded of and will quote yet again from the Book of Mormon regarding one Morianton who, in ancient times in America, fought a long civil war, won it and, by force, established himself in power. However, once in power, Morianton, perhaps contrary to expectations, immediately "began to ease the burdens of the people" - so much so that they willingly anointed him to be their king. Under his rule the people became "exceedingly prosperous". Nevertheless, notwithstanding all the good he did for the people, Morianton was not personally a righteous man:
"And he did do justice unto the people, but not unto himself because of his many whoredoms; wherefore he was cut off from the presence of the Lord."
- Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Book of Mormon, Ether 10:11:
What, then, was the moral obligation of the people in Morianton's day? Should they have rejected him as their national leader because they judged him to be personally unrighteous, notwithstanding all the good he did for the people? I think not, and neither did the people of that day. Morianton's standing before God was his own business. What he did for the people was the people's business.
But what if the people had rebelled against their good king because they didn't like the way he lived his personal life? What could be said about the common sense of a people who would reject a good ruler or leader because of his personal sins?
The hard moral truth is, there are no perfect men, and all any of us need do to confirm that is take an honest look in the mirror. We do not hire a president - any more than the people of Morianton's day anointed him to be their king - because he walks on water and is as pure and unsullied as the driven snow. No such person exists. We hire a president because we believe he or she is capable of doing for the country what the country needs to have done. Indeed, from the point of view of the nation as a whole, we have a moral obligation to choose our president on that basis alone. Any other is an inferior standard - including the standard that tolerates stolen elections - and is certain to produce inferior results, as we are presently witnessing to our great hurt.
Finally, in a day when the Leftists in power are clearly hostile to religion and actively militate against Judeo/Christian values in their policies and practices, how are we to look at Donald Trump from a spiritual perspective? Is DJT hostile to and does he work against religion in America? Clearly not. Is he supportive and encouraging of religious belief among the people? Clearly yes. Does he understand the Judeo/Christian roots of America and believe them to be good? Absolutely yes. Is DJT an activist, evangelical Christian? I don't think so. Is he a practicing Christian - church and Sunday school every week? Probably not. Does he believe in God and Jesus Christ? I believe Trump - like many others among us - in some less well-defined way, does believe in God and Jesus Christ.
Trump may be no educated believer, no sectarian or studied Christian theologian (neither was the believer Thomas Jefferson), but I believe Trump has a belief in and respect for our Judeo/Christian tradition that stands in direct opposition to the Godless ideology of the Left. He may not yet have had so close an encounter with Christianity that it has impacted the intimate details of his personal life, but I do not believe the man is Godless - not remotely comparable to the demonic Democrat Left that is demonstrably Godless and hostile to the things of God.
Accordingly, if we elect our next president based on a rigorous intellectual, moral and spiritual standard - based on his demonstrated ability to deliver for America under the most trying circumstances - that president will be Donald John Trump.
Here's what it all boils down to:
Right vs. wrong, truth vs. lies, reality vs. fantasy, knowledge vs. ignorance, law vs. lawlessness, justice vs. injustice, liberty vs. tyranny, patriotism vs. treason, light vs. darkness, good vs. evil, God vs. Godlessness...
Time to choose. You will, one way or another.
If you can be fooled, you will be.
These are the times that try men's souls...
