SHEEP TO THE SLAUGHTER?
What should we do in the face of Iran's relentless nuclear ambitions?
This morning on my MSN.com home page the following article appeared:
Iran refuses to abandon nuclear programme
In the comments section, the following Trump-hating screed was posted by someone called Scott Cromwell:
Trump: “For those people who say they want peace, you can’t have peace if Iran has a nuclear weapon." The United States, Russia, China, France, the United Kingdom, India, Pakistan, North Korea, and Israel all have nuclear capabilities. So, why can't Iran have the same ability? [sic!]
Everyone said if North Korea got nukes, it would start WWIII. They said the same thing about Pakistan, India, and China. It never happened, and it never will. Why? Because of the MAD Doctrine, Mutually Assured Destruction. This knowledge of mutual vulnerability is intended to prevent either side from initiating a nuclear conflict.
So, what is the real reason Israel is attacking Iran? Many analysts suggest Israel’s leadership wants to shift focus away from growing international criticism over its genocidal war crimes in Gaza.
And, why wouldn't they? Just like Trump sending troops to LA to distract from his failed tariffs, his feud with Elon, and tanking the markets into chaos. "It won't be like any war in history. If there's a nuclear war among major powers, the power that initiates the war will be destroyed almost certainly, simply by the effects of nuclear winter, even if there's no retaliatory strike. If there is a retaliatory strike, that is beyond discussion." ~ Noam Chomsky
In response, I attempted to post the following but was denied. My comment, I was told, did not comply with "community guidelines":
"The United States, Russia, China, France, the United Kingdom, India, Pakistan, North Korea, and Israel all have nuclear capabilities. So, why can't Iran have the same ability?"
Apart from his fatuous Trump-hating comments about Trump's "failed tariffs" - tariffs that are actually proving dazzlingly successful - and Israel's "genocidal war crimes in Gaza" - Israel's rational and determined effort to ensure the horrendous events of October 7th never are repeated again - let me ask SC regarding his suggestion that Iran has a right to nuclear weapons:
Are you serious? How naive can you be? These people - the hardcore Iranian Shiite regime - are doomsday, suicidal religious fanatics who have declared out of their own mouths - and continue to declare day after day - their desire and intention to destroy the "Little Satan" - Israel - and the "Big Satan" - the United States of America.
Nuclear weapons and ICBMs would give them the means to do it.
Accordingly, it's not as if the Iranians are being unfairly accused of having evil intentions. They accuse themselves out of their own mouths every time they shout "Death to America!" and they have a track record of violence that proves the sincerity of their declared intentions.
Paraphrasing Woody Allen, who said, "If somebody offers you money, take it", I say, if somebody says they intend to kill you, you'd better pay attention and not suppose they don't really mean it - especially when the threat comes from people who, again, have the history of evil intentions and murderous violence Iran has.
Remember, these purported victims of Israeli “genocide” in Gaza are the same monsters who on 7th October slaughtered 1200 innocent, unarmed Israeli civilians, slitting open the bellies of pregnant women, exploding babies in microwaves.
But wait! SC might protest it wasn’t ALL the people of Gaza who did these horrific things, just Hamas. You mean, SC, the Hamas that was freely elected by the people of Gaza and still is overwhelmingly supported by them? That Hamas?
War is hell. Not all the German civilians who were killed in the WWII Allied carpet bombing of German cities were Nazis, were they? Most of them did not participate in the war crimes the Nazis were guilty of. Yet they overwhelmingly supported Hitler to the bitter end, and by that support contributed to the continuation of the war - the continuing loss of life.
And the many tens of thousands of Japanese civilians killed in the atomic bomb attacks over Japan - did they participate in the war crimes of the Japanese army throughout SE Asia and China? Yet they, like the Germans, were fanatical supporters of the Japanese war effort and would have fought to the last ditch had a land invasion of Japan been necessary, resulting in the certain deaths of many tens of thousands of Allied soldiers.
Thus, characterizing the Israeli war against Hamas as a "genocide" is ludicrous. Was the Allied war against Germany genocide? The war against Japan? The atomic bombs? Again, war is hell, and civilian casualties, though inevitable, are unfortunate, tragic, as they have been in every war ever fought. But wars are fought to be won, whatever it takes, not paused for a while and resumed.
Hamas, with its horrifically evil October 7th attack, started this war, and Israel has every right to continue it, as the Allies did WWII, until the enemy has no more capacity to kill Israelis and has suffered sufficiently to surrender unconditionally (as did both Germany and Japan), which Hamas has not yet done.
Accordingly, given their brutal attack on Israel (which people like SC just redact from their anti-Israel surreality as if it never happened) and their continuing intransigence, it is Hamas who have brought down the horrors of war upon their people (just as Hitler did on the Germans), not the Israelis who are simply acting in self-defense and determined never to be Hamas’s victims again - a mindset every rational, fair-minded person understands. Indeed, it is Hamas that has declared and sought to perpetrate a genocide against the Israelis, not the other way around - a truth which reveals the twisted, anti-Israeli sentiments and illogic expressed in SC’s comments.
As concerns Iran, no one wants to contemplate a never-ending hostility with an implacable adversary, but it is what it is, and only complete fools disconnected from reality would stand passively by in the face of such deadly fanaticism - an implacable, Islam-driven animosity the Iranians have expressed violently again and again over the years, killing hundreds of Americans and many, many others in the process, directly and through their proxies.
Regarding MAD - "Mutually Assured Destruction" - SC imputes a rationality to the Iranian regime that does not exist. None of the other nuclear powers he cites - including North Korea - are driven by a fanatical, doomsday, suicidal religious ideology. For them - the rational nuclear powers - rational at least for the time being - the doctrine of "mutually assured destruction" means something and deters them from being reckless in their nuclear ambitions and behavior.
Not so for the fanatical Islamic suicide cult that runs Iran. For them, in the view of their twisted ideology, a nuclear holocaust would hasten the end of the world and be a good thing. MAD means nothing to them - no deterrent at all.
The Israelis are not fools, and now, with Trump at the controls, neither is America. We won't go passively like sheep to the slaughter, as previous treasonous and seditious US administrations would have had us do.
