The Mormon Doctrine of Insurrection

Indeed, what is going on in Utah? The people of Utah, predominantly members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, unlike all other American citizens, have a theological, scripturally based understanding of the central role of freedom - "free agency" - in the divinely engineered plan for the human family and the specifically inspired circumstances of the founding of the American nation by good and wise men God raised up this very purpose - all to the end that human liberty be established and shielded behind the divinely inspired Constitution and the rule of law it provides. In the presence of human liberty, the purposes of God in his human creation unfold as he intends. In the absence of human liberty, the purposes of God are frustrated. (It was on this point, in the premortal world, that ambitious and power-hungry Lucifer, seeking to overthrow the agency of man, got off on the wrong foot with God the Father and precipitated the War in Heaven.)
"And now, verily I say unto you concerning the laws of the land [America], it is my will that my people should observe to do all things whatsoever I command them. And that law of the land which is constitutional, supporting that principle of freedom in maintaining rights and privileges, belongs to all mankind, and is justifiable before me. Therefore, I, the Lord, justify you, and your brethren of my church, in befriending that law which is the constitutional law of the land; And as pertaining to the law of man, whatsoever is more or less than this, cometh of evil. I, the Lord God, make you free, therefore ye are free indeed; and the law also makes you free. Nevertheless, when the wicked rule, the people mourn. Wherefore, honest men and wise men should be sought for diligently, and good men and wise men ye should observe to uphold; otherwise whatsoever is less than these cometh of evil." - Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Doctrine & Covenants 98:4-10
"According to the laws and constitution of the people, which I have suffered to be established, and should be maintained for the rights and protection of all flesh, according to just and holy principles; That every man may act in doctrine and principle pertaining to futurity, according to the moral agency which I have given unto him, that every man may be accountable for his own sins in the day of judgement. Therefore, it is not right that any man should be in bondage one to another. And for this purpose have I established the Constitution of this land, by the hands of wise men whom I raised up unto this very purpose, and redeemed the land by the shedding of blood." - Doctrine & Covenants 101:77-80
"We believe that all men are bound to sustain and uphold the respective governments in which they reside, WHILE PROTECTED IN THEIR INHERENT AND INALIENABLE RIGHTS by the laws of such governments; and that SEDITION AND REBELLION ARE UNBECOMING EVERY CITIZEN THUS PROTECTED, and should be punished accordingly; and that all governments have a right to enact such laws as in their own judgments are best calculated to secure the public interest; at the same time, however, holding sacred the freedom of conscience." - Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Doctrine & Covenants 134:5 (capitols for emphasis)
While many members of the LDS Church seem to think otherwise, or are simply blind to the principles being set forth in this scripture, the implicit meaning in D&C 134:5 above, the flipside of the coin, is clearly that, when men are no longer "protected in their inherent and inalienable rights by the laws" of the governments wherein they reside, they are no longer bound to sustain and uphold those governments, and, given the core doctrinal importance of human liberty, are in fact duty-bound to resist and overthrow such governments by whatever means might be necessary. While such a tyrannical government might label such resistance as sedition, it would in reality be a battle fought in the cause of freedom.
This doctrine - and in my view it is doctrine - which some church members or leaders might consider extreme - is nothing more than a restatement of what was said so eloquently by Thomas Jefferson in the Declaration of Independence. In other words, reduced to the pith, "When injustice becomes law, rebellion becomes duty." America was built on that principle - the Revolutionary War was an expression of the duty Americans felt to rebel against British tyranny - and, again, that same principle sits at the core of LDS doctrine and theology.
Accordingly, while not presuming to speak for the church, in my personal view members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the LDS citizens of Utah have a frontline religious duty, imposed upon them by their scriptural understanding of how this great nation came to be, to be first into the trenches in defense of our God-given, unalienable rights and liberties established for us in the Constitution, and to oppose by all means necessary those who seek the overthrow of the rule of law that flows from that sacred document. That this does not appear to be happening - indeed, that we here in Utah seem to have pulled a Trojan Horse full of woke liberal lawlessness within our walls and passively given its minions control over us - is distressing indeed.
A limp-wristed, woke governor publicly declaring his "preferred pronouns" is the epitome of the state's self-betrayal - a disgrace to the people and history of Utah... in a place where you would least expect it.

A Message from Jason Preston to the People of Utah
After almost one year of campaigning, my run for US Congress in Utah’s District 3 has come to a close. I want to congratulate Chris Herrod and let him know that he can expect to see me fighting alongside him in his journey to the House of Representatives in Washington, D.C. Over the past few months, I have had the privilege of speaking with Chris many times, and I respect his principles and integrity.
Running for office was a wake-up call. I knew things were bad, but I had no idea how bad they were right here in Utah.
People ask what the best part of running for office was. Without question, it was meeting the people. I have so much hope for this state because of the people. From Blanding to Vernal, from Park City and Heber to Provo and Salt Lake -- our state is filled with absolutely incredible patriots.
The people we met are awake and filled with the spirit of liberty. From delegates to donors and our army of supporters, we were blown away by the quality of individuals who are standing and fighting for truth in Utah.
What we could not understand was how a state like this could also be the RINO Capital of America.
How does a state that should be among the most conservative have a woke governor who identifies his pronouns and is willing to allow men into our girls’ locker rooms?
How do we have a state that not only ranks at the bottom for election integrity, but also has a Governor, Lt. Governor, county commissioners, and clerks who refuse to have an independent audit and claim they are “above reproach?”
In our Orwellian dystopia, not only do we have a federal minister of truth reporting to homeland security, we also have woke leaders here in Utah claiming any who question them are guilty of spreading “misinformation.”
My run for office opened my eyes to both the beauty and the corruption of this incredible state. Utah truly matters, and the fight for freedom and to save the Constitution must be won here.
If the Constitution is to be saved, it will not be saved in Washington, but right here, in our homes and communities.
What I have learned is that we have the people here in this state capable of changing not only our state but our country. When they figure out how strong and powerful they are, they will not have to ask or beg for their freedoms back -- they will take them back.
It is the role of our elected leaders to serve the people. We elect them. We employ them. And we hold them accountable.
Today, I am stepping up from running for office into my more important role as a member of We The People.
Our goal has always been about standing up for freedom, and there is no more effective way to do that than as a United States citizen born with unalienable rights, with the seeds of divinity.
I wasn’t running for office for the honor of the position, but to protect our children’s futures. Now that I am no longer in the race, I have found we have better opportunities and networks than I could ever have imagined.
What happened two weeks ago lit a fire in me and helped me find a level of passion I have never known before.
We are beyond excited about what we are about to roll out next Saturday May 14th.
We hope you will join us and a select group of candidates and leaders in the freedom community as we roll out something very exciting!
