In another forum, two friends, Richard and Fred, both thinking, rational men, have been struggling to understand the irrationality of the Trump-hating American left.
Richard says it's "odd" that never-Trumpers, ignoring the stellar accomplishments of his first term, are suicidally, vehemently opposed to Donald Trump, hurl all manner of ad hominem invective at him - "Hitler! King! Dictator! Threat to democracy! Insurrectionist! Election-denier!" (and, in Butler, Pennsylvania, about three months ago actually hurled at him something a bit more substantial than invective) -
- but never offer coherent, rational supporting arguments for any of it. (See my earlier Substack post: "THE LEFT'S DECEITFUL WAR OF WORDS")
Fred then suggests that all this insanity might be explained by "...the heavy influence environmental stimulus has over certain people"? Environmental stimulus? What's that?
Why are some people susceptible to twisted, propagandistic "environmental stimulus" - lies - and others not? Why do some people see through the pervasive prevarications and distortions of the Democrats while others are blind to them?
Always trying to get to the root of things, it seems to me both of these gentlemen are distracted by the superficial and overlook the fundamental. Say two people are looking into the rising sun. One says its daybreak, the other says it’s midnight. What’s actually going on? Obviously, it’s a matter of perception. But what governs perception? Clearly, nothing in the outward objective world, but stuff in the inner subjective world. How can one see light and call it darkness?
The question that reveals the real dynamic here is why do some people react oddly, irrationally, coming to conclusions and taking positions that are not supported by anything logical, anything that makes sense in the real world? Why are some people susceptible to being propagandized with lies and distortions and others not?
The real answer, of course - one that many among us prefer not to confront - is that, as I have long argued, we are dealing with an intellectually, morally and spiritually corrupt element in our society, sometimes - especially at leadership levels - very well camouflaged and clothed in the sweet-smelling robes of education, sophistication and wealth, but in reality composed of intellectually, morally and spiritually defunct individuals - people unable or unwilling to reason honestly and systematically from point A to point B with the object of arriving at the truth; people who cannot or will not draw critical moral distinctions between right and wrong, justice and injustice, good and evil; and people who are absolutely disconnected from the transcendent spiritual power and influence of God that enlighten and empower correct intellectual and moral understanding. These are people without God in the world. Like the Pharisees Jesus confronted, they have another father… (John 8:39-44)
Like the Pharisees in Jesus’s time, having chosen, typically for self-serving reasons, to disconnect and separate themselves from truth and reality - the way things really are and really work - these people invariably come down on the wrong side of any intellectual, moral or spiritual issue they may be faced with. Strangers to truth - they have other priorities - and the processes of mind and character that work to reveal it, they have rejected and are devoid of a sound intellectual, moral and spiritual framework that would enable them to come down on the right side of any issue that is a contest between right and wrong, truth and lies, reality and fantasy, good and evil.
There is a vast psychological and strategic difference between the Rodney King's among us - "Can't we all just get along?" - and those who have the intellectual, moral and spiritual substance and grit to understand we are in a great, potentially terminal conflict between good and evil… and, as concerns the great political chasm now separating the people along exactly those very lines, the distinctions now presented to us - the choices - could not possibly be more dramatic and transparent in their intellectual, moral and spiritual contrast.
While many remain blind and deaf to these glaring, in-your-face distinctions, he who has eyes to see can see... he who has ears to hear can hear...
If then, the problem is intellectual, moral and spiritual decay rampant among the people, what is the solution? We'll never find one unless we are willing to confront the true definition of the problem - the Godless rot in the soul of America - an intellectual, moral and spiritual putrefaction that, as our Founders clearly understood, is utterly, existentially incompatible with freedom, security, prosperity and national strength.
For those inclined to learn from history, let me quote again:
"For as their laws and their governments were established by the voice of the people, and they who chose evil were more numerous than they who chose good, therefore they were ripening for destruction, for the laws had become corrupted.
Yea, and this was not all; they were a stiffnecked people, insomuch that they could not be governed by the law nor justice, save it were to their destruction."
- Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Book of Mormon, Helaman 5:2-3 - about 30 BC, among the Nephite people
For the people and society spoken of here - a people who ultimately were wiped off the face of the earth because they had become an intolerable stench in God's nostrils - the driver of their fate was a simple one - there were more of them who chose evil than good.
Are we there yet?
Right vs. wrong, truth vs. lies, reality vs. fantasy, knowledge vs. ignorance, order vs. chaos, law vs. lawlessness, justice vs. injustice, patriotism vs. treason, light vs. darkness, good vs. evil, happiness vs. misery, God vs. the Godless...
The tale will be told on November 5th.
